Tender meat braised in beer make for a sandwich classic.

Ingredients

Slow Cooker

  • 3 lbs beef roast (rump or top round)
  • 22 oz dark beer
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tbsp beef base
  • 4-6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp black pepper

Sandwiches

  • 6 toasted French bread buns, rolls, or hoagies
  • 6 slices of Provolone or Swiss cheese
  • Optional mayonnaise, or horseradish for serving

Process

  1. Place roast in slow cooker. Add all of the ingredients and cook on low for 8+ hours. 

  2. When roast is tender, remove roast from crock pot. Pour the cooking liquid (au jus) into a bowl. Shred the meat and place back into slow cooker.

  3. Pile onto toasted bread with cheese, mayonnaise, and/or horseradish if desired.
